Everything you need before launch

Safety rules, training, and what to expect — read anytime, book when ready.

Get helm-ready

Florida operators born on or after January 1, 1988 are required to complete boating safety education before renting a motorized vessel. Complete our course and exam, then arrive ready for inlets, channels, and open water.

  • Boating safety education — born on or after January 1, 1988? Florida law requires an approved course; carry proof before you operate a rental vessel

  • Life jackets — Coast Guard–approved PFDs required for everyone aboard; children must wear appropriately sized vests

  • Boating under the influence — operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal; designate a sober operator for the entire trip

  • Safe speed and navigation — travel at a safe speed for conditions; follow markers, regulated inlets, and no-wake or manatee zones

  • Propellers and swimming — it is illegal and dangerous to swim near a running engine; use the swim platform only when the motor is off and the captain approves

What to expect

  1. Pre-departure check

Fuel, fluids, safety gear, and float plan reviewed with operator staff.

  2. Cruise

Follow your charted route; monitor weather and marine traffic continuously.

  3. End of day

Flush systems if instructed, tie up carefully, and complete post-trip inspection.

Safety requirements

Center consoles are real motor vessels. Operator competency and Florida regulations apply.

  • Minimum renter age and boating experience rules set by operator — typically 21+ with valid license/ID
  • Born on or after Jan 1, 1988? Florida requires boating safety education — carry proof or complete our temporary certificate course
  • PFDs for all persons aboard; children in appropriate sizes
  • No BUI — sober operator only
  • Maintain safe speed for visibility, traffic, and sea conditions
  • Propeller danger — no swimming near running engines; use ladder only when engine is off
  • File a float plan or share route with someone ashore on longer runs

Good to know

  • Seas can build quickly offshore — heed operator go/no-go guidance

  • Non-skid footwear helps on wet decks

  • Fishing licenses may be required for anglers — check Florida FWC rules
